Snowmobile Licensing and Insurance In Ontario
Snowmobiles can be a fun recreational activity but there are some rules and regulations that must be followed.
All snowmobiles must be registered with the Ministry of Transportation before being operated off your property. To operate a snowmobile on a trail in Ontario you must have a valid Ontario driver's license or a Motorized Snow Vehicle Operator's License (MSVOL). Trail permits are also required for all Ontario trails. Your license and trail permit must be carried at all times or you could face a fine of up to $1000. Trail permits and MSVOLs are obtained through the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs. There are many locations across Ontario.
Insurance is also a requirement when a snowmobile is operated off your own property and is always a good idea for your own protection regardless of where your snowmobile is driven. Insurance can not be purchased if there is an operator who is under the age of 12 as they are too young to have a driver's license or MSVOL.
