Reforms to Ontario's Automobile insurance have been brought about by the Ontario Government's Five Year Automobile Insurance Review.
As part of the review, various areas of automobile insurance have been reviewed including: the Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule (SABS) and Uninsured Automobile coverage.
The intent of the Auto Reforms is to generally:
• help stabilize automobile insurance premiums in the long-term
• provide consumers with more choice and flexibility
• create a more efficient, stable auto insurance system
• help reduce upward pressure on claims costs over the long-term
All Ontario car insurance providers are required to comply with the changes mandated by the reforms. The auto accident benefits coverage offered in Ontario is among the most generous in North America.
What's Not Changing
The following coverage will remain the same after September 1, 2010:
• Third Party Liability
• Uninsured Automobile coverage
• Collision and Comprehensive coverage
