How does this Auto Reform affect me?

The  changes to some of the features under standard auto coverage being introduced on September 1, 2010 by the Ontario government will give you more choice and flexibility to purchase accident benefits coverage and limits that best meet your protection needs and budget.

What are Accident Benefits and how do they affect me?

Statutory Accident Benefits are benefits you receive if you are injured in an automobile accident, regardless of who caused the accident. Some of these benefits include: Medical, Rehabilitation, Attendant Care, Caregiver, Housekeeping, and Home Maintenance as well as Death and Funeral benefits.

What are the changes to Accident Benefits and how do they affect me?

The new Standard Auto Insurance Policy will change accident benefits coverage and limits for non-catastrophic claims and assessment costs; however you will have the option to purchase a level of coverage that best suits your needs.

Please note: An assessment is a medical evaluation.

What do I need to do now?

No action is required of you before September 1, 2010. The new Standard Auto Insurance Policy will apply when your policy comes due for renewal on or after September 1, 2010. Upon renewal, your accident benefits coverage will have automatically changed to reflect the new standard coverage.  The other coverage and limits you have selected will remain unchanged.

What happens after September 1, 2010?

The new Standard Auto Insurance Policy will apply when your policy comes due for renewal on or after September 1, 2010, unless you decide to customize it. The additional (optional) accident benefit coverage under your existing policy will be renewed as is, however there are changes that will be implemented on all policies as of September 1.  More detailed information regarding these new choices will be included with your policy renewal documents.

Will I save money with this new auto policy?

No.  The new legislation is expected to reduce claims inflation which will not result in lower premiums in the short-term.  However, stabilizing claims inflation is expected to stabilize insurance premiums in the long-term. With this new auto policy, you do have the flexibility to choose the level of medical and rehabilitation benefits, attendant care, housekeeping expenses, home maintenance expenses, caregiver expenses, death and funeral expenses, court compensation, and compensation for property damage that best meets your protection needs and budget.

How is Buckley communicating these changes to clients?

You will be receiving information in the mail on the new auto policy in the beginning of July 2010. Further Information will also be included with your renewal documents.
